Roofline

The point where your roof meets the outer walls of your house is called the ROOFLINE.

The Fascia is the long straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. It is fixed to the roof trusses and often supports the bottom row of tiles and carries the guttering. This is no mean feat, especially when a downpour can send several gallons of water per second into the gutters of a 3 bed semi.

The Bargeboard neatens the ends of the roof, demands to be seen, but doesn't carry any guttering at all. However, the condition of the bargeboard can make or break the look of a house.

The Soffit board is tucked away underneath the other two boards, joining the fascia to the house walls. It has a vital role in providing ventilation to the roofs of centrally heated houses. If correct ventilation is not provided timber decay can be the result.
